Scope of repair
Generally, the damage and defects of the conveyor belt can be repaired, but its effect needs to be correctly estimated.
The damage section must be cut off and joint a new section if the following situation happened:
- Cover rubber of the fabric belt is worn badly.
- Damage and tear positions more than 7 points per meter.
- Perforation exceeds 15.
- Transverse breaking reaches one-third of the belt width
- Strength of the belt is reduced by 40%.
With the increase in the strength of the belt, the price of the belt has increased significantly. The fabric core is the main part of bearing strength. So if the fabric core is still intact, the possibility of repair and utilization should be considered.
The basic method of repair
Conveyor belt repairs can be divided into two types: shutdown repair and emergency repair
- Shutdown repairs can be arranged according to the damage size, quantity, scope.
- Emergency repairs are mostly carried out on the machine, so that the failed conveyor could quickly re-operate, which mainly refers to joint breaking and longitudinal tear.
Cold rubber repair requires almost the same preparation time as hot vulcanization, but the curing time for vulcanization can be saved. If there are many small pieces damaged, cold glue repair is very desirable.
However, the repair quality is relatively poor under the following condition:
- Large-area repairs
- Air temperature is lower than 17 degrees Celsius
- Ambient humidity is too high
Cold adhesive repair materials are mainly neoprene type and polyurethane type.
- Neoprene type should be mixed with hardener before use.
- Polyurethane type is generally two-component. Pay attention to the mixing ratio when using it.
Check whether the remaining materials have deteriorated before hot vulcanization. You can apply gasoline or toluene on the surface of these materials. If the rubber is sticky, you can use it.
For hot vulcanization repair glue, you can cut the core rubber and buffer rubber, then place them in a container, add gasoline for a certain period of time and stir well. The ratio of glue to gasoline is about 1:5.
