The main reason for replacing the conveyor belt is wear and tear. Wear is generally divided into the following three forms.

Wear of the vulcanized joint of the conveyor belt

It is usually due to the abrasion resistance of the conveyor belt itself material is higher than the vulcanized joint or the quality problem of hot vulcanization, which leads to the local wear of the vulcanized joint and exposes the steel wire core or nylon core, which seriously threatens the strength of the conveyor belt joint.

Wear of conveyor belt on the skirt plate.

Due to improper adjustment of the skirt plate of the conveyor belt guiding device or improper design of the guiding skirt plate, the skirt plate will wear the conveyor belt during operation, resulting in serious wear on both sides of the belt. The longitudinal running direction of the whole belt is exposed to the steel cord core or nylon core. Once the steel cord core is buckled, it is easy to wrap around the rollers, leading to wire belt stripping or tape tearing.

Wear of the middle part of the belt

Generally caused by the impact of falling material. As the drop point of the hopper is relatively fixed, the wear of the impacted part of the conveyor belt increases, leading to serious local wear of the conveyor belt along the running direction, and the exposed steel cord core is stripped or the belt is torn.

Treatment of conveyor belt wear.

The above-mentioned forms of wear pose a serious threat to the normal operation of the conveyor, but replacing the conveyor belt simply because of its local strength reduction or local wear will greatly increase the operating cost. Therefore, in actual operation, the following measures are taken for local maintenance.

Local hot vulcanization technology

Hot vulcanization is carried out by vulcanizing machine. For the parts where the joints are locally worn, the hot vulcanization technology can restore the performance of the conveyor belt with better effect. The disadvantages are a large investment in human and material resources, a long time, suitable for local treatment less than the surface area of vulcanizing plate, and difficulty to deal with large area wear.

Local cold vulcanization technology

After grinding the wear parts, the cold vulcanizing rubber is mixed in proportion and evenly applied to the worn surface of the tape, which basically restores the performance of the conveyor belt. However, the curing time is long, about 10~24 hours at room temperature, the surface treatment is not smooth, and the cleaning effect is not good after the sweeper is put in.

Local cold bonding technology

Generally use German Tip Top repair strip (longitudinal crack). The advantages are less investment in human and material resources, good wear resistance, good patching performance and short recovery time; the disadvantage is that it requires high environmental requirements, cannot be restored to the flatness of the original conveyor belt surface and has a poor cleaning effect. But for the high utilization rate of the equipment, the promotion and application of cold bonding technology effectively alleviate the pressure of equipment brought by the limitations of vulcanization technology.
